Oral Hygiene & Exams
When combined with a thorough and consistent at-home oral hygiene routine, visiting your dental hygienist here at our Surrey and Delta dental practice for regular cleanings and checkups is essential for your long-term oral health.
Cleanings & Checkups
Our dental hygienists provide routine cleanings to help maintain the health of our Surrey & Delta patients' teeth and gums. You should visit your hygienist for a cleaning and exam once every six months, or possibly more often, as prescribed by your Surrey dentist.
The recommended frequency of visits is ultimately determined by your homecare, and your overall oral health.
Prevention First
At Surdel Dental Dentre, we believe in prevention first! It's always better to prevent problems from occurring than it is to deal with them once they exist.
We offer a wide range of preventive dental care options to our Surrey and Delta patients, including:
- Oral cancer screening
- Teeth, gums and soft tissue exams
- Jaw joints (occlusion) exam
- Digital x-rays
- Scaling & root planing (teeth cleanings)
- Cavity prevention treatment (fluoride, desensitizers, oral hygiene instruction)
Gum Disease & Prevention
Gum disease occurs when a buildup of bacteria and plaque cause the gums to become inflamed, swollen and red. Gingivitis is the mildest form of this disease and can be fairly easily reversed with good oral hygiene. In its more advanced stages, gum disease may require more intensive intervention, and even surgery.
As gum disease progresses, you may notice some of these symptoms:
- Sore, swollen gums
- Discoloured gums: red or purple
- Receding gumline
- Bleeding gums
- Persistent bad breath
