Our dentists at Surdel Dental Centre can use Invisalign clear aligners to help patients achieve straighter, healthier smiles. If you are considering Invisalign to straighten your teeth or correct your bite, you may be wondering if Invisalign treatment is painful.
How does Invisalign treatment feel?
When deciding which orthodontic treatment is right for you, comfort is bound to be a key factor in your decision. Many patients who have used Invisalign, describe treatment as a feeling of slight discomfort that disappears over time, until you don't notice it anymore.
Think of Invisalign aligners as you would a new pair of shoes; you gradually become accustomed to how they feel after you have worn them for awhile. You will just need some time to get used to wearing your aligners.
Will it take long to get used to wearing my aligners?
No matter which orthodontic treatment you choose, there is bound to be an adjustment period.
In order to gradually and gently guide your teeth into their corrected positions, your Invisalign aligners need to apply pressure to your teeth. You may experience some discomfort due to that pressure.
That said, chances are that if you do experience discomfort it will occur during the first few days after putting in a new set of aligners, then gradually wears off until you change to your next set of aligners.
Invisalign's clear aligners don't have any irritating metal brackets or wires, however the aligners could still irritate the soft tissues of your mouth when you first start treatment.
Try to be patient if you experience discomfort due to your Invisalign treatment. Given a little time, your gums and cheeks will toughen up and the aligners should no longer cause irritation.
