Why Less Is More When Whitening Your Teeth

Why Less Is More When Whitening Your Teeth

Whitening your teeth is a great way to improve the appearance of your smile.  Teeth Whitening can make a significant difference for relatively little effort. The important thing to remember however, is that when it comes to whitening your teeth, less is more!

For starters, if someone over-whitens their teeth, the result can be jarring. Brilliant, blindingly white teeth are not natural looking or attractive, and can actually look a bit weird in person.

Unless you have a career in the movies, television, or modelling it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to whitening. Over-doing teeth whitening can have the opposite of the intended effect: you could end up making your smile less attractive.

But appearance isn't the only thing to consider, over-whitening your teeth can lead to dental health problems. It can soften your enamel, making your teeth feel extra sensitive, and in extreme cases, it may even cause your teeth to become a strange, blue-grey colour.

That being said, it takes a lot of over-whitening your teeth to wind up with oral health problems and teeth whitening is generally very safe.

All the same, it’s best to exercise caution. If you’re unsure about how frequently you should whiten your teeth, or when they’re white enough, visit your Delta dentist at Surdel Dental Centre for a consultation!
